Q: Admintool asks for a password.
A: The Admintool function uses the name and password of the main Line administrator. By default, ‘admin’, no password.
Q: How can I reset the administrator password for Line XVR 8 H.265?
A: Follow these steps:
- in the root directory of an NTFS formatted USB flash drive larger than 1GB, create a password-reset text file with .txt extension;
- write the Line XVR 8 H.265 MAC address in the created file (you can find it by using the Admintool utility or in the local interface Manage – model name Devline XVR – Utilities);
- insert this drive into the recorder’s USB port and restart the device by switching off the power.
After this, all user passwords will be reset, while settings and rights will be saved.
Q: How can I do a factory reset?
A: You can use the local interface or factory reset to do a complete factory reset of all Line XVR 8 H.265 settings.
- Using the local interface:
- When connected locally to the recorder: Manage – model name Devline XVR – Utilities – go to Factory Reset and click Reset.
- Using factory reset:
- download factory-reset.zip;
- extract the files to any folder on your computer;
- run factory-reset.bat;
- enter the device’s IP address, the name and password of the main Line administrator (by default, “admin”, no password).
Q: The Observation Post does not connect to Line XVR 8 H.265, which is visible in Admintool.
A: Possible reasons:
- Line XVR 8 H.265 is in a different subnetwork.
An IP address filter was previously configured to restrict connection to the recorder (Observer – Manage – Network – IP address filter).
- Change the recorder’s IP address in the local menu: Manage – model name Devline XVR – Utilities or use the Admintool network utility: Network – Network settings.
- Change the IP address of the computer running the Observation Post.
- Change the IP address of the computer to one in the IP address filter list (Manage – Network – IP address filter).
- Do a factory reset for Line XVR 8 H.265.
- Export the settings using the Admintool utility: Settings – Backup Line settings, or if connected locally to the recorder: Manage – model name Devline XVR – Utilities – Settings – Create backup. Send the created .bkp file to technical support with a description of the problem. You will receive a corrected file that you can import using Admintool: Settings – Restore Line settings, or if connected locally to the recorder: Manage – Devline XVR – Utilities – Settings – Restore from backup.
Q: Line XVR 8 H.265 does not recognise the hard drive.
A: Possible reasons:
- The hard drive was used in different solutions. Its file partition and format may not be supported.
Solution: format the hard drive using the Admintool utility: Support – Format the hard drive, or in the local interface: Manage – model name Devline XVR – Utilities – select the drive and click Format. Warning: formatting will erase all data on the drive.
- Dynamic disk.
Solution: Line XVR 8 H.265 does not work with dynamic disks: either convert the dynamic disk to a basic disk or format it with the appropriate settings. Formatting will erase all data.
- The SATA cable is damaged.
Solution: replace the cable.
- The hard drive is faulty.
Solution: test the hard drive on a computer and replace it if necessary.
Q: How can I copy files from the HDD to the Ext4 file system in Windows?
A: To copy records from the hard drive to the Ext4 file system, install the ext2fsd driver. You can download the latest driver version from http://www.ext2fsd.com/. Then find the drive and assign it a letter – there are several ways of doing this:
- Press F10.
- Right click on the drive and select Change drive letter.
- Top menu Tools -> Mountpoint Management.
We recommend using the HDD in read only mode, you should not record to the drive (move files) because of the peculiarities of the Ext4 system.
Q: The IP cameras do not display locally in the Line XVR 8 H.265 interface, but they are visible on the client PC.
A: Possible reasons:
- The video stream uses MPEG4 compression format.
Solution: to work with Line XVR 8 H.265, the IP cameras must be reconfigured for H.265, H.264 or MJPEG compression.
Q: Can the recorder provide an RTSP stream?
A: Line XVR 8 H.265 can give each channel a separate RTSP URL.
Examples of stream links:
The channel (camera) number has an offset of ‘minus one’, so the 1st channel (camera) is channel 0 for the server when providing RSTP.

Q: Which ports does Line XVR 8 H.265 use?
A: The default ports are:
- 9780 – Observation Post and View Archive apps.
- 9786 – Android, iOS mobile clients and the web interface.
- 9784 – RTSP .
- 9796 – for the Admintool app.
You can change ports in the recorder’s administration section. Manage – Network.
Q: When viewing the archive from several cameras locally at the same time, the “Did not record” message appears, or the message is constantly present on a black background. When viewing one camera, the archive plays on the whole screen.
A: When viewing the archive from several cameras at the same time, the archive is played in the second stream. When switching to single camera display, Line XVR 8 H.265 plays the first stream archive skipping empty fragments when recording for detection.
- Continuous recording mode is configured for the main stream, or for detection for the second stream. Check the settings of the channel's camera.
- The settings for the additional stream include “not recording” mode. Check the settings of the channel's camera.
Q: Can Line XVR 8 H.265 be used as a client workstation?
A: Line XVR 8 H.265 can take video and audio streams from Line servers/recorders and display an image on a connected monitor. Up to 8 cameras can be connected. The source archive will not be available, but the device can record its archive if there is a directory for recording and corresponding settings.
Q: I cannot connect to Line XVR 8 H.265 by domain name.
A: Possible reasons:
- The recorder does not have internet access.
Solution: check that Line XVR 8 H.265 is connected to the network. If the connection is protected by a firewall, make sure that Line XVR 8 H.265 has permission to access the internet.
- Incorrect recorder network settings.
Solution: if the recorder’s IP address is configured manually (static), make sure that the DNS and Gateway settings are shown (in most cases they match the internet router’s IP address).
- The date/time settings for Line XVR 8 H.265 are incorrect.
Solution: synchronize the time with a computer using the Admintool app: Clock – Synchronize with PC or set it manually in the local interface: Manage – model name Devline NVR – Utilities – Date/Time.
- An IP address filter was previously configured to restrict connection to the recorder (Observer – Manage – Network – IP address filter).
If you are using direct connection through non-standard open NAT ports (ports other than 9780 and 9786) and these forwarding rules stop working, there will not be an automatic connection via TURN, as this service will only work with standard ports by default (9780 and 9786).
- Enter the external static IP address of the internet provider of the client location from where the connection is made in the IP address filter (Manage – Network – IP address filter.
- Delete all IP addresses from the filter Manage – Network– IP address filter)
The server is hidden in my Line Cloud account
- Check and configure the availability of the recorder for non-standard NAT ports.
- Return the ports to their default settings. Manage – Network, working port Observer – 9780, WEB server – 9786.
Solution: restore the server: Profile – Hidden servers – Restore server.
Q: Entries are missing in the event log.
A: Possible reasons:
- There is no directory for recording the archive. The event log is written to the local hard drive specified as the path for recording the archive.
- There are several paths for recording the archive, some of which do not exist. Delete missing directories to fix the issue.
Q: How can I change the IP camera video stream settings?
A: To get the most stable video streams, Line XVR 8 H.265 is connected to the IP cameras in ‘View only’ mode; therefore, all stream settings must be made through the camera’s web interface once during initial system configuration.
Q: Artifacts on the IP camera image.
A: First, make sure that the settings for the IP camera connection to the Line channel use the TCP option. Secondly, check that the bitrate settings shown on the camera do not exceed the standard values for the used resolution (1.3 MP – about 2 Mbit, 2 MP – about 4 Mbit, 3 MP – about 6 Mbit). The total bitrate for the device must not exceed 64 Mbit/s.
Q: Recording to a network resource does not work.
A: First, make sure that the device has the latest firmware version. If possible, check if the network resource can be accessed from another computer in the same local network as the XVR. During configuration, there are several requirements for the specified parameters:
- The resource address must have an IP address, for example, \\192.168.1.2\line_archive\ instead of \\Office-PC\line_archive\, as the device does not support NetBIOS names used by Windows.
- The full path to the network resource must already exist when configuring.
Q: Network resource recording stops after a while.
A: If the network resource is located on a computer running Microsoft Windows, you should make the following changes to the registry:
- set "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management\LargeSystemCache" parameter to "1";
- set "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\Size" parameter to "3";
- add "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\IRPStackSize" parameter with the type REG_DWORD and value "0f(15)".
You can make these changes using the windows-share.reg file. After making changes to the registry you must restart the computer.
Q: Can I directly connect 3G/4G USB modems?
A: The following modems have been tested for direct connection: Huawei E169, Huawei E171, Huawei E173, Huawei E1550, Huawei E3272, Huawei E3372, Huawei E3376, Huawei 3531, Huawei E8372, Huawei E8372 YOTA LU150/156, YOTA 4G 2018, 4G LTE WI-FI Dongle, Megafon M150-1, МТS 822F/822FT.
Other modem models should be tested beforehand.
Recorders with private IP addresses can be connected to the internet using the TURN service.
Q: How can I update Line XVR 8 H.265 firmware?
A: You can update Line XVR 8 H.265 firmware in the local interface or through the Admintool utility.
- Complete the following steps to upgrade the firmware in the local interface:
Update using the Admintool network utility:
- download the firmware file from https://www.devline.net/xvr/8/files/;
- copy it into the root directory of an NTFS formatted USB flash drive larger than 1GB;
- connect this drive to the recorder’s USB port;
- in the local menu Manage – model name Devline XVR – find Firmware on the Utilities tab and click Update;
- specify the firmware file and click Select.
- download Admintool and the firmware file from https://www.devline.net/xvr/8/files/;
- run Admintool (admintool-x.x.x.exe) and select the required recorder;
- click Support − Update firmware and select the path to the downloaded firmware file (it should look like: line-xvr8d-vxxxxxxxx.bin); enter the name and password of the main Line administrator (by default, ‘admin’, no password).
The firmware will be automatically updated, and the device will be restarted. Settings should be saved.
Q: The second monitor is not working.
A: Working with two monitors:
- the monitors and their features are only detected at start up, and connecting/disconnecting cables after this will not change anything;
- if no monitors are connected to the recorder at start up, then the ‘one VGA monitor’ mode is activated, which can be connected at any time after start up;
- if there are two monitors, HDMI is always the main one and on the left;
- there are two resolution options depending on monitor support: 1920 х 1080 and 1280 х 1024, VGA is always 1280 х 1024;
- The second monitor (VGA) only works in real time mode (you cannot view the archive on it).
Q: How can I reboot the recorder?
A: You can remotely reboot the recorder using Line software through the Curl utility, which can be downloaded from here or from the official website.
When working via the internet, configure NAT (reset the port) to port 9796, i.e. to make the recorder available on the internet through port 9796.
You can reboot the recorder by changing the firmware localization:

You can read the current localization and also install it with one request, for example (Linux):

If it is difficult to master sending these commands, you can use an executable bat file. If you want to reboot the recorder regularly, then you can configure your PC to send these commands in Windows Task Scheduler (enter Taskschd.msc in the command line).
